Sherwood Estate ‘Nor’wester’ Pinot Noir 2012

23-Apr-2015
Establishing Sherwood Estate over 25 years ago, Dayne and Jill Sherwood are as active as ever leading their significant Waipara Valley business. The Sherwoods have vineyards in the Waipara Valley as well as Marlborough, and most of the production, made under the care of the ever-youthful winemaker Petter Evans, is exported. While the Sherwood Estate ‘Signature Family’ wines represent the company and New Zealand wine best, it is the ‘Waipara Collection’ range that encompasses innovation in style and winemaking technique. The wines credit the pioneers in the Waipara Valley district with the same attitude and approach in settling the area as in the wines’ making, and they are named after "rural icons” which connect with viticulture and farming. Here, I review the ‘Nor’wester’ Pinot Noir, named after the prominent wind which blows in spring and early summer. www.sherwood.co.nz
