SOHO Waiheke Island 2013 Revolver and Valentina

11-Aug-2014
With its headquarters in Auckland, the SOHO Wine Co. has Waiheke Island as its home winegrowing district, heading wines from Marlborough and Central Otago that make up the rest of the portfolio. SOHO sources the Waiheke Island fruit from their ’Jomara’ vineyard at Onetangi, which is north-west facing with clay loam based soils and volcanic ash and gravels. The company’s winemaker for the Waiheke Island wines is James Rowan, better known for his winemaking at West Brook. James is very familiar with the Island, having been winemaker at Mudbrick Vineyard for 4 years. His SOHO offerings capture the spirit of the Island and will come to express the vineyard with greater clarity as he becomes more intimate with the fruit that it provides. Here I review the new 2013 ‘Revolver’ Merlot-blend and the 2013 ‘Valentina’ Syrah. www.sohowineco.com
