Spade Oak 2013 ‘Voysey’ Pinot Gris and Chardonnay

20-Mar-2014
It has been a fantastic year for Steve and Eileen Voysey. As writing, they’re picking the fruit for their 2014 vintage, and report it’s "another big tick vintage from Gisborne, two in a row to help us forget about 2011 and 2012”. There were no worries with Cyclone Lusi, all hype with no effects. The Spade Oak wines have been very successful, especially the ‘Voysey’ tier which offers great value. The wines have sold out quickly and now Steve and Eileen plan to be able to have more than one bottling run of the wines to meet demand if need be. The 2013 wines are clearly highly anticipated, and we are seeing the release of these in the ‘Voysey’ range. For the first time, there will be a Pinot Gris, made similarly to the Montana Gewurztraminers that Steve developed, this wine further growing the range of wines on offer. Here, I review this wine and the new release 2013 ‘Voysey’ Chardonnay, both wines just bottled a few days previous. www.spadeoak.co.nz
