Spade Oak Methode Traditionnelle Blanc de Noirs 2009

11-Nov-2011
Working on the development of the ubiquitous ‘Lindauer' range of wines for Montana, Pernod-Ricard and Indevin for around two decades, Steve Voysey is one of a rare breed of top sparkling winemakers in New Zealand. In his ‘spare time', he tends his 15 ha ‘Spade Oak' vineyard with his wife Eileen, and they have released a number of intriguing and innovative varietals and styles recently. The Spade Oak Method Traditionnelle wines, a Blanc de Blancs and a Blanc de Noirs, both from the 2009 vintage are about to be released. They will be treated as ‘recently disgorged' to order. I review a pre-release bottle of the Blanc de Noirs wine, a small quantity of which was disgorged and trialled for tasting at the 2011 Gisborne Wine and Food Festival, where it was reported to have been a sparkling success. www.spadeoak.co.nz
