Spy Valley 2013 Sauvignon and Rosé, and 2012 Pinot Noir

03-Sep-2013
Established in 1993 by Bryan and Jan Johnson, Spy Valley produces some of the leading and most popular wines of Marlborough. The wines come from over 160 ha of vineyards, planted to approx. 50% Sauvignon Blanc, 30% Pinot Noir and the rest to Chardonnay, Riesling Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, with around 2.5% to Merlot, Syrah and Malbec. Contract fruit is also purchased to supplement the estate grown grapes. Viticulture is to the care of Adam McCone, and the wines are made by Paul Bourgeois and Kathy-Lee Sowman at the modern 4,000 tonne capacity winery in the Waihopi. Besides the premium range, there is the limited edition ‘Envoy’ tier which allows the Spy Valley team the opportunity to experiment and innovate. Here I review the new, more readily available, premium 2013 Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir Rosé, and 2012 Pinot Noir. www.spyvalleywine.co.nz
