Spy Valley New Release 2015 and 2014 Sauvignon Blanc

13-Oct-2015
Spy Valley was established at the mouth of the Waihopi Valley in Marlborough by Bryan and Jan Johnson in 1993. At the time, it was adventurous winegrowing, as the area was deemed too cold for grapes. Two decades on, Spy Valley is one of the most trusted and reliable of quality labels, the excellent wines coming from 160 ha of vines and processed at the modern 3,000 tonne winery. Sauvignon Blanc is the most important wine, accounting for approx. half of the plantings. Winemaker Paul Bourgeois makes several labels and styles, from the value ‘Satellite’ brand, the innovative low-alcohol ‘Easy Tiger’, the premium ‘Estate’ bottling, and the limited production, sophisticated ‘Envoy’. Here, I review the latest releases of these four Sauvignon Blanc wines, the first three from the 2015 vintage, and the latter, aged a year in barrel, from 2014. www.spyvalleywine.co.nz
