Squawking Magpie ‘Reserve’ Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2014

04-Aug-2014
Squawking Magpie is first and foremost a Hawke’s Bay label, and one based on Gimblett Gravels fruit to boot. The wines have won many major awards for owner Gavin Yortt, and for many people, that would be enough. But not Gavin, as he has recognised certain limitations with such a focus. I’m sure by popular demand, he had to introduce a Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc into his portfolio about a decade ago. The ‘Reserve’ Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc sits in ‘The Chatterer’ tier, being affordable and made in an earlier drinking style. Here, I review the new release 2014 vintage. www.squawkingmagpie.co.nz
