Squawking Magpie ‘The Chatterer’ Syrah 2013

17-Jul-2014
‘The Chatterer’ is an apt name for Gavin Yortt’s second tier label for Squawking Magpie. I’m not inferring Gavin is an incessant talker, but he has an unbounded enthusiasm for wine, the Gimblett Gravels and Hawke’s Bay, which he happily promotes. 2013 is "one of the best ever vintages” according to Gavin, so he’ll have plenty to crow about (apologies for the pun). One can expect some outstanding wines from a brand that has consistently delivered a lot more than the occasional outstanding wine. Such was the quality of the fruit, that wines in the secondary tiers should be excellent as well. It’ll just be a matter of accessibility and style. Here’ I review the 2013 ‘The Chatterer’ Syrah, the fruit-forward, earlier drinking wine. www.squawkingmagpie.co.nz
