Staete Landt and Map Maker New Releases

21-Jan-2014
The Staete Landt estate comprises 21 ha of vines on the ‘Golden Mile’ in the Rapaura district of Marlborough. Owners Ruud Maasdam and Dorien Vermaas researched and mapped the soil profiles and accordingly planted their varieties with chosen rootstocks to suit in 24 different blocks. In essence they treat each block as a single vineyard and entity and tailor the viticulture for each block separately. It is this care and attention that is the basis for the quality of their contemporary-styled Map Maker and terroir-driven Staete Landt labels. Here, I review a selection of new release white wines under both brands. www.staetelandt.co.nz
