Stanley Estates 2013 Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris, and 2012 Pinot Noir

26-Mar-2014
Stanley Estates features Mount Tapuae-O-Uenuku on the label, and from the vineyards in the Awatere Valley owned by Bridget Ennals and Steve Pellett, the mountain is the main geographical feature. Stanley Estates was established in 2003 with the purchase of 11 ha of vineyard land, but has been expanded by the purchase of a neighbouring block in 2004 and a newer block planted in 2005. There are 13.5 ha of Sauvignon Blanc, 3 ha of Pinot Noir, 0.5 ha of Chardonnay and new plantings of Albarino (1.2 ha), Pinot Gris (2 ha) and Lagrein (1 ha). Steve tends the vineyards and the contracted winemaker is Eveline Fraser, well known for her time with Cloudy Bay and No. 1 Family Estate. Here, I review the new release 2013 Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris, and the 2012 Pinot Noir. www.stanleyestates.co.nz
