Sugar Loaf 2014 Marlborough Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir

04-May-2015
Kate Acland is one of the new breed of young Marlborough winemakers producing small lots of classical Marlborough wine, offering alternatives to the high volume releases of the big players. The name ‘Sugar Loaf’ refers to the islands off her Taranaki home, and she resides in Mt Somers in Canterbury where she and her husband run a farm, while raising a family of three. In the meantime, she operates Sugar Loaf Wines which is based on a winery in the Rapaura district of Marlborough and an 8 ha Sauvignon Blanc vineyard, making a broad range of wines from contract fruit to supplement her own. Here, I review the new 2014 Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. www.sugarloafwines.co.nz
