Summerhouse 2012 Monarch and Chardonnay

16-Jan-2014
The Summerhouse brand was established in 1995 by Heather and Meric Davies with a vineyard at the confluence of the Wairau and Waihopi rivers in Marlborough. It was recently acquired by Spring Creek Vintners who is now using it as their premium on-premise focussed label to sit with its Rapaura Springs and River Terrace brands. The wines are limited production releases and will include a Blanc de Blancs Methode Traditionnelle, Sauvignon Blanc, Gruner Veltliner, Verdelho, a barrel-influenced Sauvignon Blanc called ‘Monarch’ and a Chardonnay. In reds, there will be Pinot Noir and Syrah. Here, I review the 2012 releases of ‘Monarch’ and Chardonnay. Winemaker Michael Bann has taken the approach of full flavours and plenty of inputs and structure in these oak-aged whites. www.summerhouse.co.nz
