Terrace Edge 2010 Pinot Noir and Syrah

14-Oct-2012
The Chapman family in the Waipara Valley have their Terrace Edge vineyard based in the ‘Glasnevin Gravels'. The output is classic, with Riesling supported by Pinot Gris in the whites and Pinot Noir backed by Syrah. Some Sauvignon Blanc is also grown, and the Chapmans are investigating bottling some under their own label, after successfully having it contracted out from the outset. The red wines quickly became accepted as excellent examples from the district, and are a testament to Pete Chapman's work in the vineyard. Belinda Gould of Muddy Water made the wines, up to the 2010 vintage, and now Dominic Maxwell of Greystone, which bought Muddy Water has taken responsibility for crafting the wines from the 2011 vintage. I review the 2010 Terrace Edge Pinot Noir and Syrah, vinified by Belinda Gould. www.terraceedge.co.nz
