TerraVin ‘Hillside Reserve’ Pinot Noir 2011

09-Aug-2013
The TerraVin ‘Hillside Reserve’ Pinot Noir is the flagship wine for ‘TerraVin’, expressing the qualities of Pinot Noir grown on hillside vineyards. In creating the label, Mike Eaton was among the leaders in bottling the produce of close-planted vines on clay-influenced sites that required manual tending. The Southern Valleys in Marlborough has now become the happy hunting ground for sourcing the best Pinot Noirs in the region as many other producers have joined TerraVin. In a recent visit, TerraVin’s winemaker Gordon Ritchie discussed the next phase that the company was taking with Pinot Noir. (Click here to read my article.) The ‘Hillside Reserve’ wine is a selection of the best barrels, based on structure and power of expression. TerraVin have now become focussed on showing the different facets of the individual sites they source their hillside fruit from, following a period of bottling single vineyard wines. This is, of course, is displaying terroir. The 2011 ‘Hillside Reserve’ wine will be the last under that label, as TerraVin continue their development of their Pinot Noir programme. It is a worthy release. www.terravin.co.nz
