The Cabbage Tree Vineyard – New Releases

14-Oct-2013
The Cabbage Tree Vineyard is a true artisanal operation, with owners David and Winifred Bull completely ‘hands-on’ tending the vines and making the wine. The vineyard is a tiny 1.32 ha, on the Martinborough Terrace and has 4,000 vines, half planted to Pinot Noir, one quarter the Chardonnay and the rest to Merlot and Semillon. Most of the vines were planted in 1998, so there is decent vine age. The wines are made on the property, and 90% is hand-sold at the cellar door, where Winifred serves delicious platters. The Bulls prefer to release their wines with some "natural time age”, clearly when they show more of their inherent character. Here I review the latest releases of the Semillon, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. www.thecabbagetreevineyard.co.nz
