The Delta Wine Company – Quality Dawning

23-Jun-2011
The Delta Wine Co. was formed by renowned winemaker Matt Thomson, London-based wine distributor David Gleave MW, along with viticulturist Neal Ibbotson and winery infrastructure specialist Ron Stewart, with the purpose of creating top-flight Marlborough Pinot Noir. To this purpose, they purchased the Delta Farm situated on the flats and hills of the Waihopi Valley in 2000, planting 32 ha to clones 114, 115, 667, 777 and 5 in 2001 and 2002. Two labels of Pinot Noir are produced, the ‘Delta' comprising two-thirds of the production and ‘Hatters Hill' the rest. To balance the label, Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from Matt Thomson's 10 ha family vineyard at Dillons Point. As the vines gain in maturity, one can sense the quality at Delta dawning.
