Tiki Wine Takes Another Step Up

27-Sep-2011
The Tiki Estate wines have taken another step up. The branding has slotted into place with the ‘Tiki Estate' wines becoming the core of Royce and Sue McKean's wine portfolio, with the ‘Maui' brand as the ‘little brother', sourcing fruit from any of the company's vineyards over three growing regions, and the ‘Alpine Valley' as specialist expressions of the higher altitude Wairau Alpine Valley growing region. The flagship wines are the Tiki Estate ‘Single Vineyard' wines with a Tiki Estate ‘Black Label' Pinot Noir as the very top wine. Labelling has been attractively fine-tuned. The McKeans three vineyard sources are their home ‘Waiata' vineyard in Waipara, purchased in 2004, three high altitude sites in the Wairau Alpine Valley, Marlborough, developed in conjunction with David Jordan, and the ‘Marshall' vineyard in Gibbston, Central Otago, owned by Sue's father Denis. The vineyards come under the supervision of Pete Kerdemelidis and winemaking entrusted to the highly experienced Evan Ward from the 2010 vintage. Already the 2011 vintage has provided trophy and gold medal success. www.tikiwine.com
