Tinpot Hut 2011 Hawke’s Bay Syrah

12-Jun-2014
The Tinpot Hut label of Fiona and Hamish Turner is best known for its range of classical Marlborough white wines of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Riesling, and the emerging Gruner Veltliner variety, these wines highlighting the Blind River district of the Awatere sub-region where the Turners have their ‘Home Block’ vineyard. With long-established contacts, the Turners have not been averse to supplementing their own fruit with high quality grapes from sites in the Lower Wairau, Rapaura and Omaka, especially as their own vines are gaining in maturity. The Pinot Noir produced comes from different sites in Marlborough, and the Syrah is sourced from vineyards in Hawke’s Bay from the extensive network of growers the Turners have. Here, I review the 2011 Syrah. www.tinpothut.co.nz
