Tinpot Hut 2013 Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris

27-Feb-2014
The 2013 vintage marks a decade since Fiona Turner and her husband Hamish establish their 20 ha of vines in the new Blind River region of the Awatere Valley in Marlborough. Fiona has a wealth of winemaking experience and plenty of expertise is at hand, as she is part of the Kiwi-Oeno wine consultancy team with Matt Thomson, Glenn Thomas and Alana McGettigan. The Tinpot Hut wines are made at South Pacific Cellars from fruit from the ‘Home Block’ supplemented with grapes from neighbours and contracted growers around Marlborough, in making Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Riesling and Gruner Veltliner. Syrah is also made, from Hawke’s Bay fruit. The wines made to date are classical Marlborough expressions, and we can expect to see an increasing depth to them as their vines gain age. Here are my reviews of the new release 2013 Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris. www.tinpothut.co.nz
