Tora Bay ‘Tora Rock’ Martinborough Sauvignon Blanc 2013

12-Sep-2014
‘Tora Bay’ is one of the more understated labels from the Martinborough district. Martin Bonifant who operates in the finance world owns a sizeable 33 ha of Sauvignon Blanc planted in 2005 on Lake Ferry Road, 4 km south of the village. Economies of scale operate to allow exporting, mainly to the United States, and there is a smaller domestic market. The fruit is transported to the ‘Links’ winery in Hawke’s Bay, where contracted winemaker Tony Prichard looks after the vinification. The Tora Bay brand has a number of different tiers which aids in market differentiation. Here, I review the Tora Bay ‘Tora Rock’ Sauvignon Blanc 2013. www.torabaywines.co.nz
