Turanga Creek 2014 and 2013 Organic Whitford Releases

09-Oct-2015
Turanga Creek is the winegrowing venture of Wayne and Mandy Allen who acquired their 24 ha property at Whitford in the Manukau district south-east of Auckland city some 25 years ago. In 2005 they redeveloped to establish a vineyard with the aspirations to make high quality wine as naturally as possible. To that end, they gained BioGro organic certification in 2011, being the first to do so in the Auckland area, and became Demeter certified biodynamic with the 2013 vintage. Turanga Creek has the ‘Down to Earth’ range which often sources fruit from other regions, and has included overseas wine (organic, of course), the ‘Estate’ tier, and the flagship ‘Signature’ bottlings. The wines are made by Rod McDonald. Here, I review a 2014 ‘Down to Earth’ wine, and a selection of 2014 and 2013 ‘Signature’ wines, all from the home Whitford vineyard, and all certified BioGro organic. www.turangacreek.co.nz
