Two Degrees Central Otago 2014 Rosé and 2012 Pinot Noir

25-Sep-2014
Two Degrees is the Central Otago winegrowing venture of Richard and Di Somerville who established their 6 ha vineyard in Queensberry at the northern end of Lake Dunstan by planting 15,000 Pinot Noir vines in 2003. The name ‘Two Degrees’ has references to the gentle slope from the Pisa Range to the Clutha River and the closeness of the New Zealand people. The vineyard is tended with input from James Dicey and the wines made by Dan and Sarah-Kate Dineen, the first vintage being 2007. The Somervilles have enjoyed gold medal wine show success with the Pinot Noir wines. Here, I review the 2014 Rosé and 2012 Pinot Noir. I find they share an elegant concentration and tautness that may reflect the vineyard site. www.twodegrees.co.nz
