Vidal ‘Legacy Series’ Noble Semillon 2011

31-Dec-2013
It has been a golden year for Hugh Crichton and Vidal Estate as the press release goes, but that’s no exaggeration, as in 2013, Vidal Estate took the ‘Winery of the Year’ at the Hawke’s Bay A & P Show, 12 trophies, 17 gold medals and 16 five-star ratings. The results add to the excellence of the Villa Maria group of wineries, but Vidal Estate retains its own sense of style, as does sister winery Esk Valley. Established in Hawke’s Bay in 1905, Vidal’s heart is in that home region, though fruit is sourced from Marlborough vineyards. One can sense Hugh has a certain sense of pride, especially in the Chardonnays, Syrah and Bordeaux-varietal wines that are made from Hawke’s Bay fruit. This year’s final "cherry on top” came with the ‘Legacy Series’ Noble Semillon 2011 winning the Sweet Wine of the Year Trophy for Australian ‘Winestate’ magazine, made in the Sauternes style. This is another Hawke’s Bay winner. Here is my review of the wine. www.vidal.co.nz
