Vidal ‘Reserve Series’ Current Releases

17-Jun-2013
It has been two years since Hugh Crichton, winemaker at Vidal Estate initiated the ‘Reserve Series’ wines to fit in between the more affordable ‘White Series’ and top of the line ‘Legacy’ tier. While there were concerns over the use of the ‘Reserve’ in the middle range, in retrospect, there needn’t have been any worry. Nomenclature can be a strange and personal thing, and the branding has been accepted readily by the consumer. That a number of the ‘Reserve Series’ wines have picked up gold medal and trophy awards has helped the cause. While based in Hastings, Hawke’s Bay, Hugh accesses Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir fruit from the Villa Maria Estates parent company resources in Marlborough, to supplement the wine styles made from Hawke’s Bay fruit, thus making the Vidal brand truly representative of New Zealand for the international market. Here are my reviews of the current range of Vidal Estate ‘Reserve Series’ wines. www.vidal.co.nz
