Vinoptima ‘Delicatum’ Reserve Gewurztraminer 2010

07-Aug-2015
Nick Nobilo and his family have had an enormous influence on this country’s modern wine industry, such that Nick was appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to the wine industry in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list in June this year. Nick’s passion is Gewurztraminer, a variety he fell in love with in the 1980s, and following the sale of the Nobilo family business, he set up his Gewurztraminer dedicated vineyard and winery in the Ormond district of Gisborne in 2000. His first vintage was the 2004, and he has continued to release a string of superb, world-class wines since. Each of the vintages carries a moniker which reflects the year. 2004 is described as ‘Indian Summer’, 2005 as ‘Wild Ferment’, 2006 as ‘Spicy Vintage’, 2007 which is yet to be releases ‘The Grand Vintage’ and 2008 as ‘Elegant Rose’. The 2010 will be released in October, later this year, and has been dubbed ‘Delicatum’, describing the more delicate style. I have had the opportunity of tasting the wine at the Negociants N.Z. Winemakers’ Tour (click here to see), and I now offer my full review. www.vinoptima.co.nz
