Vista 2013 Pinot Gris and 2012 Pinot Noir

25-Oct-2013

Vista Vines and Wines of Greg and Bridget Dryden is the newest addition to the Nelson wine scene, releasing their first wines at last month’s Nelson New Release tasting. Situated on a north-west facing slope on Moutere gravels on Kina Beach Road, their vineyard is tiny, with 4,500 vines on just over 1 ha, planted equally to Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. A tiny amount of Syrah is also planted, but insufficient for commercial purposes. Greg, a consultant at Fruition Horticulture, and Bridget planted the vines in 2009, after clearing existing pine trees, and they have encouraged biodiversity for environmental sensitivity. The Drydens are aspiring for quality with their strict viticulture, and aim to produce around only 250 dozen wine in total every year. The wines are made at the nearby Anchorage winemaking facility. I review the new wines. www.vistawines.co.nz
