Vynfields 2013 Pinot Rosé and Classic Riesling

17-Dec-2013
These are new vintage releases for John Bell and Kaye McAulay of Vynfields. I first saw these wines briefly while assisting at Vynfields for the ‘Taste Martinborough’ festival last month, and pouring the wines I noted how positively people reacted to them after their first sip. You can’t underestimate the importance of the wine drinker, and the number of repeat pours was eye-opening, even with the likes of the outstanding ‘Reserve’ Pinot Noir 2011 which topped the ‘Consumers Choice’ tasting at the Martinborough Wine Centre tasting the night before (click here to read my review) on offer. 2013 is looking to be an outstanding vintage for Martinborough, with all the ripeness a vigneron could want, the growing season showing an ideal diurnal temperature range. The fruit and resultant wines are strong, and certainly not ‘blockbusters’, and my initial impressions on tasting these wines were richness with approachability, and a degree of detail. Winemakers Marion Deimling and Kai Schubert have interpreted the fruit well for the market. Here, I review the two wines fully. www.ynfields.com
