Vynfields Martinborough Dry Riesling 2013

15-Apr-2014
Even before purchasing the 5.3 ha vineyard in Martinborough that would be named Vynfields, John Bell and Kaye McAulay have harboured a passion for dry Riesling. I saw that when they were my retail clients attending tastings and making private purchases, no doubt for research purposes! On acquiring their vineyard, planted to Riesling as well as Pinot Noir, they set about making a Riesling in the style they loved. Acknowledging the austerity of dry Riesling, they bottled a sweeter and more consumer accessible Classic Riesling, but the dry wine has always been in their hearts. The dry Riesling has evolved over the years, and the wine is a little softer, has a touch of residual sugar rather than being bone dry, and acidity that doesn’t sear. Here is my review of the new release 2013 Vynfields Dry Riesling. www.vynfields.com
