Waipara River Estate 2012 and 2013 Riesling. Pinot Gris and Pinot Noi

08-Jun-2015
When Michael Peters and Tina Besley acquired the 32 ha Waipara Valley property that was Glenmark Wines, they inherited some of the oldest vines in the district. Operating as Waipara River Estate, there are 3 ha of vines, the 30 y.o. plants in ‘The Original Vineyard’. The business is a multi-faceted one, not only being a vineyard, but a pastoral farm with B&B accommodation and function venue. Typically, the vineyard and wines take up a disproportionate amount of time and resource. Michael and Tina have had Kym Rayner as winemaker from 2009 up to the 2012 vintage. From 2013, they contracted Theo Coles and Mat Donaldson to make their wines to explore style. Here, I review a selection of Rieslings, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir, made by all three. www.waiparariver.com
