Walnut Block ‘Nutcracker’ 2014 Sauvignon and 2013 Chardonnay and Pinot Noir

13-Mar-2015
The Walnut Block label is named after a 100 y.o. walnut tree that is prominent on the 17 ha Rapaura vineyard established by the Sowman family in 1996. It has been certified Biogro organic since 2013. Clyde Sowman is the managing director of the family’s venture, with Nigel as the viticulturist and Helen responsible for logistics. They have the very experienced Gordon Ritchie as their winemaker. Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir are made under the ‘Collectables’ tier, and the premium wines, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir have previously been released under the ‘Single Vineyard’ moniker. This has now been changed to ‘Nutcracker’ and I review the new release 2014 Sauvignon Blanc and 2013 Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. www.walnutblockwines.co.nz
