Whitehaven and Mansion House Bay 2014 Whites and 2013 Pinot Noir

02-Mar-2015
The Whitehaven wines have offered stylish and elegant Marlborough drinking for nearly two decades. Founder Sue White heads the business and the company has a 25% shareholding by the giant Gallo company which guarantees a strong uptake and presence in the American market. The company draws fruit from over 35 ha of estate vineyards and supplements this with contract fruit. Winemaker Sam Smail has been with Whitehaven since 2000 and he heads a capable and experienced team. Here, I review the 2014 Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc, arguably the company’s most important wine, and also a selection of Mansion House Bay whites from the same vintage and a 2013 Pinot Noir under this label. ‘Mansion House Bay’ refers to the home of New Zealand’s first Governor, Sir George Grey, and the wines are offered in selected domestic channels. www.whitehaven.co.nz
