Wild River 2014, Mount Brown and Catherine’s Block 2013 Releases

31-Mar-2015
Mount Brown was established by Tony Rutherford and his daughter Catherine Keith when they planted their home vineyard with Riesling and Pinot Noir in 2002. They expanded their venture by planting a new 35 ha vineyard called ‘Limeloader’ in 2007, adding Tempranillo in 2010. Then in 2012, they added to their holdings again by purchasing an existing vineyard, naming this the ‘Weka Gravels’ block. The vineyards are under the care of Andrew Florance. Three tiers of wine are made, the value and accessible ‘Wild River’ label, the premium ‘Mount Brown’ brand, and the limited ‘Catherine’s Block’ by Frank Manifold. Here, I review the new release 2014 Wild River Sauvignon Blanc, 20103 Mount Brown Pinot Noir, and 2013 Catherine’s Block Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Tempranillo. www.mountbrown.co.nz
