Wooing Tree 2014 Chardonnay and ‘Beetle Juice’ Pinot Noir

16-Apr-2015
The Wooing Tree label is one of the most recognisable from Central Otago due to being named after a 90+ y.o. pine tree in the centre of the vineyard. Wine lovers are more appreciative of the high quality wines that emanate from Steve and Thea Farquharson, and Jane and Steve Bews’ vineyard sited opposite ‘The Big Fruit’ sculpture at Cromwell. There are 16 ha of a range of Pinot Noir clones and 1 ha of Chardonnay. Contract winemaker Pete Bartle fashions a diverse range of wines, especially from the Pinot Noir fruit, from super-premium to value reds, rose and blush, as well as a sweet wine. There is only one Chardonnay made. Here, I review the new 2014 releases of the Chardonnay, and accessible ‘Beetle Juice’ Pinot Noir, named after the endangered Cromwell Chafer Beetle. www.wooingtree.co.nz
