Wooing Tree 2015 Rosé and ‘Blondie’

18-Aug-2015
Owned by the Farquharson and Bews families, Wooing Tree is a Cromwell-based, nearly Pinot Noir exclusive producer. The vineyard, over the road from the iconic ‘fruit sculpture’ has 16 ha of Pinot Noir planted in clones 5, 6, 115, 667 and 777, established in 2002 by Robin Dicey. (There is also 1 ha of clone 95 Chardonnay.) An inventive approach has resulted in a diverse range of styles and expressions of the Pinot Noir grape, with the ‘Estate’ Pinot Noir accompanied by the super-premium ‘Sandstorm Reserve’ as well as the accessible ‘Beetle Juice’. In the Wooing Tree portfolio is also a rosé and blanc de noir called ‘Blondie’, as well as a ‘Tickled Pink’ dessert wine, all from Pinot Noir. The Wooing Tree winemaker, Pete Bartle at VinPro, clearly is a man of flexibility! Here, I review the new 2015 releases of the Wooing Tree Rosé and ‘Blondie’. www.wooingtree.co.nz
