Woollaston 2012 Vintage Releases

30-Jan-2013

As with any business, it takes time and effort to build up momentum. Since Woollaston Estates was established in 2000 by Nelson locals Philip and Chan Woollaston, and Glenn and Renee Schaeffer from America, it was clear that this was going to be a serious wine operation with the highest aspirations. The last couple of years have seen the fruition of the work. In March 2011, the winery and 30 ha of vineyards under the stewardship of vineyard manager Julian Coakley, with Woollaston since 2001, achieved BioGro organic certification. In October, Shane Munn joined Woollaston as winemaker, after six years at Millton Vineyards in Gisborne. Shane introduced indigenous yeast fermentation in older oak barrels for increased richness and textural richness in the wines. The 2012 vintage wines reflect these significant changes at Woollaston. Here is my review of three of the new release wines. www.woollaston.co.nz
