Woollaston 2014 Sauvignon Blanc and 2012 Pinot Noir

16-Dec-2014
Woollaston Estates has made strong progress over recent years as the vines and vineyards have come into balance with the on-going process to organic certification, and with the work of talented and thoughtful winemaker Shane Munn, with the company since 2011. With Shane’s departure, it will be essential for the new winemaker to continue with the proven regimes now in place and maybe take an even stronger and bolder stance in style direction to achieve greater things. The ‘Mahana’ label will be the vehicle for that, while the ‘Woollaston’ tier will be more stylistically conventional and representative of Nelson, but incorporating the techniques that provide funkiness, complexity and texture to a ‘safe’ level. Here, I review the Woollaston 2014 Sauvignon Blanc and 2012 Pinot Noir demonstrating the position attained to date. www.woollaston.co.nz
