Wycroft ‘Forbury’ Pinot Noir 2013

10-Jun-2014
One of the smallest commercial wine producers in the Wairarapa and in New Zealand, Wycroft is the operation of the Bryant family who own 0.5 ha of mainly Dijon clone Pinot Noir planted on Matahiwi Road just out of Masterton. The inaugural vintage of 2003 was supplemented by a second tier ‘Forbury’ in 2008. Over the years, the fruit from the home vineyard has occasionally been supplemented by grapes from neighbours to bolster the amount of the more accessible ‘Forbury’ wine, but the annual overall quantity made remains around 250 cases. The Bryant family have Guy McMaster of Urlar as their contracted winemaker.  Here, I review the 2013 'Forbury' Pinot Noir, showing a welcome return to the expression of riper vintages.  www.wycroft.co.nz
