Yecla Wines from Argosy

18-Mar-2011
Specialist Spanish wines importer Ted Money of Argosy Wines has championed the wines of the Yecla region in his portfolio. Surrounded by the well-known regions of Jumilla, Almansa and Alicante, the south-eastern D.O. Yecla has become recognised for its Monastrell red wines. The variety seems to thrive there and full ripening seems to smooth out the rough and robust edges that it can show. While the French claim it as their own and call it Mourvedre, the Spanish also have a strong right to the vine's origin and ownership. The Argosy range is based on Bedegas Castano, who own over 400 ha of vines. The wines from the modern winery range from easy and early-drinking to ageworthy expressions. Ted Money has these good value releases available:
