Zephyr 2013 Aromatics and 2012 Pinot Noir

30-Apr-2014
Ben and Jack Glover, well-known Marlborough wine industry people are the fourth generation to belong to the land there. Both work for New Zealand Vineyard Estates, Ben as the Group Winemaker overseeing the Mud House and Waipara Hills brands, and younger brother Jack as a Global Sales and Marketing Manager. Though secondary to their primary jobs, their input in the family vineyard and wine brand Zephyr has seen it grow in prominence recently. Ben has taken on the direct role of making the wines, and the extra attention has brought them into the winning circle at judgings and tastings. The basis of the wine quality is the 30 ha home property and vineyard on Dillons Point Road tended by parents Owen and Wendy, who established Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling vines in 1985. In 1991, the Glovers added Gewurztraminer into the mix, and today, it is the aromatic whites, as well as Pinot Noir that Zephyr is quickly recognised for. Here, I review the new 2013 aromatic white and 2012 Pinot Noir releases. www.zephyrwine.com
