36 Bottles Central Otago Chardonnay 2013

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Otago
Review Date : 26-Jun-2014
Bright, pale straw-yellow colour with youthful green hues, lighter on rim. This has a very fresh and tightly concentrated bouquet of citrus fruits infused with cream and butterscotch MLF with nutty oak toast, forming a densely packed and clearly layered amalgam. The aromatics build in depth showing greater detail, with savoury stonefruits and nuances of bacony oak complexities. Medium-full bodied, taut and concentrated flavours of citrus and white stonefruits flow smoothly on a soft-textured palate, unfolding layers of spicy oak and creamy, buttery MLF elements. The acidity is restrained, adding to the richness and softness, but this has good length and lingering nuances on the finish. This is a softly concentrated Chardonnay with citrussy fruit and layers of creamy, oaky flavours. Match with poultry and pork over the next 3-4+ years. Hand-picked fruit from the ‘Hawksbury’ vineyard, at Mt Barker, near Wanaka, WBP and barrel-fermented to 14.3% alc., the wine aged 8 months in 17% new French oak barrels, aged on lees and undergoing 100% MLF. 17.5/20 Feb 2014 RRP $27.95 Disclaimer: This wine is distributed by ‘Wine2Trade’, the company under which ‘Raymond Chan Wine Reviews’ operates
