Alluviale Hawke’s Bay 2008

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 16-Feb-2011
Dark ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues, this has an alluring aromatic bouquet of dark berry and plum fruit with notes of Black Forest and fruit cakes, tobacco and cedar. Medium-full bodied, this is a fine-grained and tightly structured wine with lovely sweet red and dark berry fruits and plums, very expressive of Merlot with its touch of earth and tobacco. The oak balance is excellent and combines with the aromatic nature of the fruit providing good lift. The finish is firm, but fine-textured and is long and dry. 55% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc from Gimblett Road, fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 16 months in 90% new French oak barriques. Serve with roast meat courses over the next 6-8+ years. 18.5-/20 Feb 2011 RRP $30.00
