Blanket Hills ‘Slow Boat’ Hawke’s Bay Merlot 2010

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 18-Apr-2013
Dark, deep, black-hued ruby-red colour with garnet on rim. This has a firmly packed nose of dark plums and dusty earth, along with spicy, cedary oak, the aromatics showing a fragrant lift. Fullish-bodied, up-front and mouthfilling flavours of savoury dark plums, liquorice, earth and cedary oak are supported by fine, grainy tannins. The acidity is restrained and the fruit sweetness is framed by the structure which results in a dry, textured mouthfeel. The palate has a harmony and completeness and finishes with moderately sustained earth and oak flavours. This is a full-bodied, flavoursome Merlot with a good, dry structure and savoury plum and cedar notes. Match with roasted red meats and semi-hard cheeses over the next 4-5+ years. Merlot fruit from vines on two soil types, fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine spending 20 days on skins and aged in oak. 290 dozen made. 17.0/20 Apr 2013 RRP $21.99
