Cable Bay Waiheke Island Syrah 2012

Syrah from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 06-Dec-2013
Very dark, black-hued ruby-red colour with some youthful purple on edge. This is soft and subtly presented on the nose with aromas of ripe black berry fruits, black pepper and Asian spices, revealing complex earth, tar and minerally reduction elements alongside floral nuances. Medium-bodied, subtle and sweet black berry fruit and black pepper flavours are smoothly intermixed with Asian spice and tar notes. The mouthfeel is soft and seamless, the acidity in the background, contributing to the roundness of the palate. The flavours flow effortlessly with some succulence to a light, moderately long, black-fruited finish. This is an elegant and smooth black-fruited Syrah with soft mouthfeel. Serve with Middle Eastern lamb dishes over the next 5-6 years. 98% Syrah and 2% Viognier from the ‘Edwards’ vineyard, co-fermented to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 14 months in French oak barriques. 17.5+/20 Dec 2013 RRP $35.00
