Clearview ‘Reserve’ Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2014

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 27-Dec-2015
Bright, light golden-hued yellow colour, lighter on the rim. The nose is full and deep with concentrated aromas of ripe yellow stonefruits and savoury citrus fruits, unfolding complex layers of creamy barrel-ferment and nutty oak, entwined with subtle flinty lees elements and mealy notes. The fruit expression has restraint, and builds in depth and flinty detail in the glass. Full-bodied, the palate displays power and concentration with breadth of mouthfilling flavours of savoury yellow stonefruits and citrus fruit melded with mealy and nutty oak, revealing a complexing flint and toasty amalgam. The flavours show restraint, but are framed with plenty alcoholic power and generous body, with some warmth and positive drive. The palate balances the subtle creamy barrel-ferment richness with integrated phenolic grip and balanced acidity, the structure carrying the wine to a strong, full, generous finish. This is a full, powerful, savoury, stonefruited Chardonnay with complex flinty lees and toasty oak layers. Match with roasted and grilled white meat dishes over the next 5+ years. Hand-picked fruit from vines planted and 1986 and newer plantings in the Te Awanga vineyard, WBP, barrel-fermented in mainly new French oak, partially with indigenous yeasts to 13.9% alc., the wine aged 11 months in barrel. 18.5+/20 Dec 2015 RRP $36.00
