Element Wines Gimblett Gravels Hawke’s Bay Viognier 2015

Viognier from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 24-Nov-2015
100% Viognier from the Gimblett Gravels, barrel-fermented to 14.5% alc. and 2.5 g/L RS, the wine aged 3 months on lees, undergoing batonnage, without MLF conversion. Full, bright, even straw-yellow colour with light green hues. The nose is firm with good intensity of exotic yellow stonefruits, apricot kernels and citrus blossom forming a concentrated core. Layers of yellow florals, nuts and minerals unfold lending delicate interest and detail. Dry to taste and full-bodied, this has up-front and bold flavours of apricots and exotic yellow stonefruits and florals in a positive amalgam of citrus blossom and musk. The mouthfeel is solid and rounded with a strong core, and suggestions of unctuousness. This has good alcoholic power with acid energy, and the wine is carried along a light, textured line to a lingering finish with nuances of bitter apricot kernels. This is a full, up-front Viognier with bold apricot flavours and some power and weight. Match with Middle Eastern fare over the next 3-4 years. 17.5/20 Nov 2015 RRP $28.00
