Elephant Hill Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Malbec/Cabernet Franc 2013

Blended Red from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 02-Feb-2015
A blend of 46% Merlot, 45% Malbec and 9% Cabernet Franc, from the company’s ‘Gimblett’ and ‘Triangle’ vineyards, hand-picked to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 12 months in 28% new French oak, then a further 6 months on lees in tank. Very full, near saturated black-red colour with youthful purple hues. The nose is elegantly concentrated with well-packed aromas of ripe black plum fruit with red and black currants, spicy oak and red and black floral perfumes. Medium-full bodied, rich, plush and succulent flavours of red and black plums are the feature on palate. Harmoniously melded layers of juicy and sweet red berries and currants are infused with spices and some oak lift. The fruit is supported by very fine, supple tannins and lacy, enlivening acidity, and the wine flows with vibrancy and richness to a very long, sweet, plummy and spicy finish. This is an elegantly concentrated, rich, lush and juicy Merlot and Malbec blend with a fine, supple structure. Match with lamb, beef and venison dishes over the next 5-7 years. 18.5+/20 Feb 2015 RRP $34.00
