Frizzell Hawke’s Bay Chardonnay 2011

Chardonnay from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 17-Apr-2012
Bright, lemon-hued straw-yellow colour, pale on rim. This has an intense bouquet of ripe, savoury oranges and grapefruits, along with nutty, spicy oak elements. There is a fresh, steely edge to the aromatics. Medium-full-bodied, the flavours of ripe citrus fruit have hints of savoury maturity, intermingling with butter and cream, spicy oak, and nutty, flinty lees notes. The flavours are well-concentrated and kept lively by crisp, steely acidity. A slight textural thread underlines the palate which carries through to a long, racy, citrussy finish. This savoury, flavoursome Chardonnay has a crisp and steely edge to match Mediterranean-inspired seafood, poultry and pork dishes over the next 3+ years. Hawke's Bay fruit partially barrel-fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine given batonnage and 100% MLF. 300 cases made. 17.5-/20 Apr 2012 RRP $21.95
