Frizzell Hawke’s Bay Merlot/Malbec 2009

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 24-May-2011
Deep ruby-red in colour with youthful purple hues, this has a soft and full bouquet of ripe black plum and spicy berry fruits, along with subtle cedary oak. Rich boysenberry nuances from the Malbec unfold in the glass. Medium-bodied, this is a fresh, lively and crisp wine with bold red and black plum and berry fruit flavours supported by fine, supple tannins that allow the fruit to feature. The fresh acidity provides a mouthwatering tension that will make it a good match with hearty Middle Eastern and Mediterranean fare over the next 5-6+ years. A blend of Merlot and Malbec, fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged in French and American oak barriques. 340 cases made. 17.5+/20 May 2011 RRP $23.95
