Haha Hawke’s Bay Merlot 2015

Merlot from New Zealand - Hawke's Bay
Review Date : 27-Apr-2016
Very dark, deep, black-hued, purple-ruby colour, youthful in appearance. This has a firm nose with an aromatic array featuring ripe, dark plum fruit entwined with dark curranty fruit and dark herbs, along with complexing minerally, reductive elements, unfolding violet florals with aeration. Medium-bodied, the fruit flavours of dark blackberries and black plums are sweetly rich, plush and up-front. There are layers of savoury dark herbs with mineral and reductive notes which add detail. The fruit is underlined by fine, grainy tannin extraction and the mouthfeel enlivened by bright acidity. This flows with energy, leading to a slender, reserved, moderately lingering finish. This is a fresh, plush, up-front Merlot with sweet dark plum and herbal flavours, and light, grainy structure. Match with pizza and barbecued fare over the next 2-3 years. Fruit from the Hawke’s Bay hill country, fermented to 13.5% alc., 90% of the wine aged 7 months in French oak. 16.5/20 Apr 2016 RRP $16.99
