Karikari Estate Karikari Peninsula Syrah 2007

Syrah from New Zealand - Northland & Auckland
Review Date : 16-Feb-2011
Ben Dugdale has produced a wide range of styles from the outset with this varietal. Ben Dugdale sees considerable potential. This is Karikari Estate fruit, fermented to 12.8% alc. Dark, deep, ruby-red with youthful purple hues, this has a powerful and intense nose of black and red berry fruits with black pepper, smoke, spices and tar , as well as violet floral nuances, that are revealed in layers. On palate, the richness of fruit and oak flavours is a feature. Spicy black berry fruits with pepper and strong bacony oak are framed within a highly extracted tannic structure, that despite the fine-grained nature, is firm and drying. Fresh acidity will be an aid to this wine developing over the next 7-10 years. Serve with game and hard cheeses. 17.5-/20 Feb 2011 RRP $24.50
